This is a bit fascinating. This post is here not because of the design but rather the process and observation that is being made and catalogued. ‘Urbino’s Anthem’ stems from the audio and visual observation of the church bells of the churches and cathedrals in Urbino ring daily. Artist Ruben Doornweerd noticed that the systems these churches use have a consequent pattern but are very often also inconsequent. The sound installation designed points out this inconsequent consequence. In the installation seven sound interpretations for each church on the original recordings made of the church bells. The amount seven refers to the seven days in a week. The seven tracks all have a different duration, just as the bells in Urbino have different durations at different times. In every corner of the square room you find a speaker with equal distances between each of them. Every speaker plays different sounds composed. The tracks will be played shuffled and repeated continuously. This way he lets go of the result which can never be predicted – just as the church bell system in Urbino. The Exhibiton was an inititaive on the online design magazine Fontanel.
The exhibition was
an initiative of online design magazine ‘Fontanel’.
